{"id":26898,"date":"2021-11-17T06:30:00","date_gmt":"2021-11-17T04:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.acea.auto\/?post_type=publications&#038;p=26898"},"modified":"2021-11-18T15:06:12","modified_gmt":"2021-11-18T13:06:12","slug":"position-paper-access-to-in-vehicle-data","status":"publish","type":"publications","link":"https:\/\/www.acea.auto\/publication\/position-paper-access-to-in-vehicle-data\/","title":{"rendered":"Position paper \u2013 Access to in-vehicle data"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"intro block-container\"><p>This position paper presents the views of the European Automobile Manufacturers\u2019 Association (ACEA) on in-vehicle data access and sharing.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"cntnt block-container\">\n<p>Europe\u2019s auto makers believe that the primary objective should be to achieve the creation of an ecosystem in which customers benefit from innovative services which improves their driving experience while ensuring their safety and security above all other concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This ecosystem should ensure that providers of services to a connected vehicle can use the vehicle data that is required to provide the services that customers want and need while preserving customer choice over what data is shared, with whom, and for what purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the European Commission decides to create a framework for in-vehicle data, the auto industry recommends that the framework should be articulated around a <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.acea.auto\/files\/ACEA_position_paper-Access_to_in-vehicle_data.pdf#page=9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">principle of fair and non-discriminatory access<\/a><\/u> that will act as its cornerstone. Under this principle, providers of service to a connected vehicle would be granted access to the data and the resources that manufacturers use to offer services to their customers, and which their customers have agreed to share.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acea.auto\/files\/ACEA_position_paper-Access_to_in-vehicle_data.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">position paper<\/a> sets out the policy recommendations that should be implemented to enable the principle of fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory access to in-vehicle data and resources. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The EU auto industry\u2019s recommendations are grouped in two clusters:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.acea.auto\/files\/ACEA_position_paper-Access_to_in-vehicle_data.pdf#page=13\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Access to in-vehicle data<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.acea.auto\/files\/ACEA_position_paper-Access_to_in-vehicle_data.pdf#page=22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Access to vehicle resources<\/a><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>ACEA and its members believe that these recommendations will ensure that all market players seeking to provide services to connected vehicles are equipped with the same tools and have access to equivalent input.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This will allow them to compete fairly and on equal grounds and continue to innovate in a way that will broaden consumer choice,
