ACEA has been made aware that the European Commission\u2019s legislative proposal on access to in-vehicle data, functions and resources may be delayed. However, so far, this information has not been substantiated by the Commission and remains speculative.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n

In any case, any delay in data legislation specific to the automotive sector would not hinder the wider commercial use of vehicle data in Europe. The Data Act, a proposal for a general law currently under review by Parliament and Council, will grant users control over the data generated by vehicles, providing third parties \u2013 such as aftermarket service providers \u2013 with fair and non-discriminatory access to this data. The comprehensive requirements proposed in the Data Act mean that additional legislation on access to in-vehicle data is unlikely to achieve more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It would therefore be wise to first assess the impact of the Data Act before creating additional legislation. ACEA would welcome a decision by the Commission to postpone its legislative proposal on access to in-vehicle data to ensure that it stands on a robust foundation. Rescheduling this proposal would not jeopardise the availability of vehicle data to aftermarket businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ACEA is looking forward to clarification of the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\t\t
